HBD Nicole

Some friendships don’t make sense on paper.

They start in places that feel random at the time. A girls night. A county fair concert. A band that doesn’t even exist anymore. One of those nights you go into with zero expectations… and somehow walk out with a person who stays.

That’s how I met Nicole.

Through another Whitney, through a night that turned into years of stories only we understand. But Nicole… she’s the one this is about.

Nicole is the Mary Ann to my Wanda. The Thelma to my Louise.

Not in a loud, over-the-top way. In a steady, grounded way. The kind of person who balances you without trying. The kind of person who brings you back to center without ever making you feel small.

Over a decade later, she’s still here. Still steady. Still real.

We live hours apart. We don’t see each other. Life filled up fast and took us in different directions.

But none of that ever touched what we have.

Because Nicole isn’t a “when it’s convenient” kind of friend.

She’s a “no matter what” kind of person.

There’s no show with her. No expectations.

No pressure. You don’t have to perform or filter yourself. You don’t have to prove anything.

You just show up as you are… and she meets you there.

We pick up where we left off every single time.

A phone call turns into a full life update. The kind where nothing is off limits. The kind where you feel seen without having to explain yourself.

And when we do get time together, it’s simple.

Adios in LaSalle. Our spot. Sitting there, talking about life like no time passed at all.

That’s Nicole.

And I’ll never forget her wedding.

I cried. Not a quiet tear. Not a composed moment. I mean full, blubbering baby.

Because she was stunning.

But what hit me harder was knowing what was going through her mind.

The checklists. The details. Making sure everything was perfect. Making sure everyone else was taken care of. Making sure nothing slipped.

Even on her day, she was still putting everyone else first.

That’s who she is.

Nicole is one of the most selfless people I know. She works hard. She shows up. She loves people deeply. And she still doesn’t give herself the credit she deserves for everything she’s done and all the lives she’s touched.

But I see it.

I see her heart. I see her effort. I see the way she carries people, even when she’s carrying her own load too.

And I’m proud of her.

So proud.

And now she’s married to her best friend, Jeremy. Living a life that feels real. Earned. The kind of life that matches exactly who she is.

She deserves that.

She deserves all of it.

Happy birthday, Nic.

I’m grateful for you. Every day.

I love you.
